TAYLORMADE SIM 2 MAX STEEL IRONS
Much has changed in golf equipment over the past twenty years, with giant strides in technology allowing golf club manufacturers to produce clubs that can make significant improvements to a golfer’s game. The adage of ‘you can’t buy a golf game’ has never been less true than it is today, and the modern cavity backed irons now allow golfers to hit shots that they could previously only dream of hitting.
The SIM MAX irons of 2020 were one of the best-selling clubs of all time and were almost universally well reviewed by online independent testers. One would think then, that TaylorMade would find them quite difficult to improve upon. If there is one thing the R & D team at TaylorMade like it’s a challenge, and the release of the new 2021 TaylorMade SIM2 MAX irons sees them rise to the challenge with some aplomb.
The back of the new TaylorMade SIM2 Max iron looks substantially different to the first model and has been constructed using a brand-new multi-material cap back design. High strength stainless steel has been blended with ultra-lightweight polymers to maximise energy transference and the result is an iron that offers unparalleled distance with great forgiveness and a new softer feel. This new construction has allowed TaylorMade to place the CG extremely low and results in high launching shots that seemingly stay in the sky forever.
The club face on the TaylorMade SIM2 Max iron has also been redesigned and now offers ball speeds that are close to the legal limit. This fast and forgiving face flexes upon impact with the golf more effectively than ever before and sees a big improvement in performance on off-centre hits. The SIM2 Max iron is a mid-size head that will appeal mainly to mid to high handicappers and golfers in these handicap brackets do require some help if a shot is struck poorly. The SIM2 Max iron delivers in this regard extremely impressively.
A new Echo dampening system has been introduced to improve the feel of the SIM2 Max iron. One of the only negative comments about the original SIM Max iron was that it did feel slightly ‘tinny’ at impact. The Echo dampening system deals with this superbly with soft polymer inserts and multiple contact points helping to channel any harsh vibrations away from the club face. The SIM2 Max now offers a feel that is as close to a forged iron as you will get in cast game improvement iron.
Any side spin imparted on to the golf ball is minimised by the Inverted Cone Technology, helping to reduce the all-too-common slice spin. This ICT is optimised for each club throughout the set allowing you to play your best golf ever with the confidence these clubs will bring.
If you are looking for a new set of irons to help take you game to the next level, then the TaylorMade SIM2 MAX irons would be a superb choice. Packed with technology, this great looking iron will allow you to hit shots that your normally only ever see on the TV.
