Cobra Golf have muscled their way onto the top table of golf equipment manufacturers over the past few seasons, with a string of excellent product lines that have performed superbly in all independent testing. Cobra have always been at the forefront of innovation in golf club manufacture, and they have never been afraid to experiment with new technologies that would lead to improved ball speeds, forgiveness looks and sound. Cobra have now released the LTDx range of metal woods to an expectant golfing public and without any question it is the finest collection of drivers that they have ever produced.
Cobra’s design team have employed machine learning and CNC machining to shape their innovative technology, and this has led to the E9 face being replaced by a new variable thickness design named H.O.T face (Highly Optimised Technology). This explosive new face has been precision tuned to provide the ultimate in ball-speed, leading to significant improvement in the distance your drives travel. The clubface thickness has been optimised in fifteen different zones to help maximise the ball-speed regardless of where on the face the shot is struck.
As with the outgoing RadSpeed range there are three different head choices, with each model providing different qualities and allows you to choose the ideal model for your launch characteristics. The LTDx LS driver is for the higher speed and more advanced golfer that likes to hit high launching, low spinning bombs, whilst the LTDx MAX is a maximum draw biased head that offers exceptional levels of stability. The LTDx driver is their ‘standard’ head that will be suitable for the greatest cross section of golfers and is an excellent blend of the other two drivers in the range.
The Cobra LTDx driver provides a combination of power and forgiveness that has been hitherto unseen making it a highly attractive option for golfers of all handicaps. It is the first driver to achieve zero CGna and a 5200 M.O.I. which in simple terms means that this superb driver is both extremely long and extremely forgiving. At address the profile is slightly oversized and provides a confidence inspiring look that encourages long straight drives.
As with all the drivers in the new range, the LTDx driver features their new H.O.T. Face technology and replaces the E9 face from previous generations. The ‘Highly Optimised Topology’ face has been precision tuned for speed using data gathered from thousands of impact simulations. There are fifteen different zones across the club face with differing thicknesses which helps to maximise ball-speeds regardless of where the ball has been struck on the face. Cobra’s CNC machining has combined with machine learning to produce this completely new face which will provide a welcome boost to the power of your tee shots.
The multi material construction used in the construction of the LTDx driver has allowed Cobra to use 30% more carbon fibre than on the previous Radspeed model, creating a lighter and stronger chassis. Inside the head of the Cobra LTDx there is 19g of weight positioned in the PWR-COR and 15g of weight positioned at the back of the head which produces optimal CG location, low levels of backspin and supreme stability.
Cobra drivers have always performed well in all areas, but the new Cobra LTDx driver represents a significant step forward and has all the qualities needed to take your driving game to the next level. If you are looking for a new driver to power you to your best golfing season, then the Cobra LTDx driver would be an excellent choice.
FEATURES AT A GLANCE
Cobra Golf has produced some fine fairway woods over the past few years with each one offering an enticing blend of power and forgiveness. Utilizing innovative technologies, they have managed to progress performance along at a steady rate with each new model improving over the previous one in impressive fashion. This season sees the release of the LTDx family of fairway woods and it would appear that Cobra have managed it once again.
Much like the range of drivers, the Cobra LTDx fairway wood collection has three different options to choose from, with each one offering different features and benefits that will lend themselves to a certain type of golfer. The LTDx is their standard head and will suit the broadest range of handicaps and style of golf whilst the LTDx LS is a low spin offering that is more suited to the better golfer that produces higher club head speeds. The final option is the LTDx Max which is the most forgiving in the range and provides the most draw bias.
The Cobra LTDx fairway wood utilises the PWR-COR and H.O.T Face technology that was developed for the new driver range and it works equally well in the fairways. The H.O.T Face uses 15 different zones each with its own optimised thickness which produces industry leading ball speeds even on shots that have been badly mishit. The new Carbon Fibre crown has allowed the Cobra engineers to reposition weight to allow for a forward and low CG (Centre of Gravity) which increases ball speed at impact.
The Cobra LTDx fairway wood has a traditional shape that sits beautifully behind the ball at address with the carbon fibre crown framed nicely by non-intrusive graphics that run along both sides of the perimeter. The sole of the 3-wood does not have the rails that are associated with Cobra fairway woods whereas the 5-wood and 7-wood do. Cobra believes that they are only beneficial when the swing becomes steeper in the more lofted woods as this is when turf interaction becomes more important.
A 12g fixed weight sits at the back of the LTDx Fairway Wood head which increases the M.O.I. and forgiveness and ensures that the desired high launch is produced. When this is combined with the PWR-COR tech that places weight low and forwards the optimal combination of high launch / low spin and max forgiveness / max ball speed is achieved. The Cobra LTDx 3-wood is another superb offering and sees this most innovative manufacturer continue their hot streak. If you are looking for a great looking all-round performer that can help to elevate your game, then the Cobra LTDx fairway wood should eb right at the top of your list.
FEATURES AT A GLANCE
Virtually all amateur golfers have at least one hybrid club in their golf bag these days as they offer a versatile blend of forgiveness and power that simply can’t be achieved with other styles of clubs. If you are one of the few players left to have not jumped onto the hybrid bandwagon, then you are most definitely missing a trick. Cobra Golf began the hybrid revolution way back in 1998 when they released their massively popular Baffler and ever since then this most innovative of manufacturers has been at the forefront of hybrid designs.
The Cobra LTDx range of clubs is superbly rounded off by the release of the LTDx Hybrid which are their first hybrids to feature the acclaimed PWRSHELL technology found in their equally impressive iron ranges. This technology utilises an L-Cup face design that is forged from an extremely strong stainless steel which allows for a much thinner face to be used. The thin face can then flex more which provides faster ball speeds and higher launch at all points of the club face.
Aesthetically the LTDx range ticks all the boxes with a classy and uncomplicated view at address with the plain black crown nicely framed around the perimeter by unintrusive graphics. It sits beautifully behind the ball with a head size that is more compact than other hybrids on the market, allowing for greater versatility from a whole host of different lies. Cobra’s signature Hollow Split rails are once again to found on the sole of the LTDx hybrids and there is no doubt that they improve turf interaction and help to keep the club face stable through impact.
The new PWR-COR and H.O.T FACE technologies are also featured on this impressive new hybrid. The PWR-COR has allowed Cobra to use multi-material internal and external weights to reposition weight low and forward to produce lower spin levels whilst the H.O.T. Face sees the club face divided into different zones, with each one optimised to provide the maximum amount of ball speed. When these two technologies are combined with a fixed back weight, the result is an extremely long and forgiving hybrid that launches the ball high with low spin levels.
The Cobra LTDx Hybrid is available from a 2-hybrid (17°) all the way through to a 6-hybrid (28°) allowing golfers to achieve the perfect gapping at the top end of their bag. If you are looking to upgrade your hybrids, or to take the first steps towards easier golf by buying your first one, then the Cobra LTDx Hybrid would be the ideal choice.
